CANCER SCREENING

Cancer Screening

At Dr. Susan Fox’s Center for Women, we stress the importance of routine examinations to all of our patients. Regular pap smear exams are crucial in ensuring the overall health of any woman. These tests can detect different forms of cancer early on, allowing treatment to begin before the cancer has a chance to progress and worsen. When it comes to cancer treatment, the earlier the cancer is detected, the better. Many women have been able to avoid drastic surgeries and treatment options by keeping track of cancer screening and completing them often.

Endometrial Cancer

Endometrial Cancer Treatment

Endometrial Cancer is a form of cancer that affects the lining of the uterus. There are currently more than 200,000 cases of endometrial cancer in the United States each year, a number that continues to increase with the passage of time. This form of cancer is often referred to as uterine cancer. Some common symptoms found in women who have developed Endometrial Cancer may include:

  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Pelvic pain
  • Pain during intimacy
  • Irregular discharge between periods
  • Drastic fatigue

This form of cancer is most common in women 55 years and older. We take special care to speak to our patients who are beginning or have already passed through menopause and alert them of the importance of scheduling regular examinations. Endometrial Cancer can be detected through a pelvic examination, which can be easily scheduled at any time at our center.

Cervical Cancer

Cervical Cancer Treatment

Cervical Cancer affects the cervix, the cartilage tissue connecting the vagina and uterus. Most cases of this form of cancer stem from individuals with HPV (human papillomavirus). It is one of the most common forms of cancer found in women, but can be properly treated with the help of capable professionals. There are not many obvious symptoms that arise with the development of abnormal cervical cells, but a woman may begin to notice symptoms such as:

  • Bleeding after menopause, intercourse, or between menstrual cycles
  • Heavy, abnormal discharge
  • Pain in lower abdomen

Although 12,000 women a year are diagnosed with Cervical Cancer in the United States, early detection can be found through completing regular pap smear tests. By completing a pap smear along with your routine examination at Dr. Susan Fox’s Center for Women, you can make a drastic difference in the Cervical Cancer Treatment options available to you.

Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian Cancer Treatment

Ovarian Cancer does not usually show any signs until it has further developed. Some symptoms you may experience, however, range from:

  • Persistent cramps in the lower abdomen or back
  • Nausea
  • Bloating
  • Unusual vaginal bleeding

A full physical exam can assist in detecting Ovarian Cancer early on. Although it is often difficult to detect, through the use of a pelvic exam and pap smear, our medical professionals can look for any existing ovarian lumps. It is for this reason, among many others, that we encourage our patients to visit Dr. Susan Fox’s Center for Women for routine examinations.
