hysteroscopy Procedure

A hysteroscopy is recommended by our medical professionals at Dr. Susan Fox’s Center for Women for women who are experiencing:

  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Asherman’s syndrome
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Mullerian malformations
  • Endometrial ablation
  • Retained placenta
  • Polyps

This Hysteroscopy Procedure allows our doctors to have a closer look into the lining of the uterus in order to find the cause of any abnormalities you may be experiencing. A hysteroscope, the instrument that is utilized during the hysteroscopy, is similar to an endoscope which is used to look inside the body for medical purposes. The thin tube of the hysteroscope contains optical and light fibers that can provide visualization of the openings to the Fallopian tubes.

Prior to your hysteroscopy, our experts will determine what form of sedative or anesthesia you will need in order to make the procedure as comfortable and painless as possible. The cervix will be dilated with the use of special instruments to facilitate the insertion of the hysteroscope, followed by a gas or liquid solution which will allow our professionals to be as thorough as possible. The light of the hysteroscope is then shone, allowing further examination.

The most side effects you will experience after the procedure will usually be related to the anesthesia or sedative administered. Light spotting and cramping is common, but usually disappears within a few days. If you experience any serious serious symptoms such as severe pain, heavy bleeding, or fever, you should contact our offices immediately.

Benefits of Hysteroscopy

Aside from being a crucial factor in determining the cause for any abnormalities or symptoms you may be experiencing, in comparison to other invasive procedures, a hysteroscopy:

  • Can be performed right in the clinic
  • Involves minimal recovery time
  • Does not require large amounts of pain medication
  • Only slight cramping and discomfort is felt by most patients

Although this procedure wreaks many benefits, it is imperative that you contact our professionals at Dr. Susan Fox’s Center for Women by calling (305) 595-6488 or click here to set up an appointment. Our caring doctors will go over your options after an examination in order to determine whether a hysteroscopy is right for you.
