Birth Control Care in Miami Beach

Dr. Susan Fox Center for Women: Providing Birth Control Care in Miami Beach

Some of the most common questions we get from patients in Miami Beach are about birth control care.

Birth control is the act of preventing pregnancy, such as preventing sperm from reaching eggs or by stopping a woman’s ovaries from releasing eggs for fertilization.

There are a variety of birth control options available to both women and men. Some birth control methods include:

  • Condoms
  • IUDs
  • Birth Control Pills
  • Tubal Ligation
  • Vasectomy
  • The Rhythm Method

At Dr. Susan Fox’s Center for Women, we offer various types of birth control care to our patients in Miami Beach and the surrounding areas, including IUD birth control options.

Dr. Susan Fox Center for Women: IUD Birth Control Care for Patients in Miami Beach

An IUD, or intrauterine device, is a small, flexible, plastic devices used as long-acting, reversible forms of birth control.

An IUD prevents the fertilization of eggs in the uterus for a specified time, depending on the form of IUD you decide upon.IUDs implanted within the uterus may remain in place for several years as a semi-permanent solution.

The insertion and removal of the “T” shaped IUD are performed at Dr. Susan Fox’s Center for Women by our medical professionals.

We have several IUD options for our patients to choose from. They are all safe, effective, and reversible. However, they offer different advantages. Below, we list the options we offer from the shortest to longest lasting.

Paragard

This intrauterine device releases copper from its wire wraps around the base and helps prevent fertility by setting off an inflammatory reaction in the uterus.

Paragard does not contain hormones, as some types of IUD do. This device is tiny, measuring in at a mere 1.26” x 1.42”.

Its flexibility and size make it simple for our experts to insert and remove when requested. Once inserted, you shouldn’t feel it at all.

  • 99% effective in preventing pregnancy
  • Less than 1% of users contract a pelvic inflammatory disease
  • Hormone-free
  • Effective for up to 10 years

Skyla

Another great IUD option, Skyla is a hormone-releasing, intrauterine device that can prevent pregnancy for up to three years. It is one of the smallest devices, with a height of 1.18”, about the same height as an earbud.

Skyla releases a low dose of progestin, a hormone that is estrogen-free and will ensure that the device is effective in preventing pregnancy from occurring.

  • Over 99% effective in preventing pregnancy
  • Three years of prevention
  • Less than 0.1% of women experience perforation
  • Does not interfere with the use of tampons or sexual activity

Liletta

A newer IUD method on the market, Liletta, is a safe, efficient option for long-lasting birth control. It has been tested on a wide variety of women and has proven to par with all the popular IUD birth control care options in Miami Beach

Like Skyla and Mirena, Liletta releases a slow, steady hormone into the uterus called levonorgestrel to prevent pregnancy.

  • Proven to last three years thus far but, with more testing, that number may increase.
  • FDA Approved
  • One of the most affordable options available
  • Releases levonorgestrel hormones

Mirena

Dr. Susan Fox’s Center for Women recommends this IUD birth control care to our patients in Miami Beach who have had children. It’s simple insertion and removal allows women to change their minds and try to become pregnant immediately after removal.

Mirena has been FDA approved in the United States since 2000, proving to be highly effective with the use of the levonorgestrel hormone.

Our professionals can insert Mirena quickly and easily, with minimal to no discomfort.

  • Over 99% effective
  • Up to 5 years of prevention
  • Great for family planning
  • Treats heavy periods

Side Effects of an IUD

Many women opt to use IUD as opposed to birth control pills as an IUD does not require any form of daily intake or maintenance.

IUD users find comfort in knowing that a reliable form of birth control is always in place and cannot be deterred by forgetfulness.

All of our IUD products have been tested and approved, causing only minor side effects in the vast majority of women. Some of these side effects may include:

  • Pelvic pain or cramping
  • Irregular menstrual bleeding
  • Swelling or inflammation
  • Nausea
  • Breast tenderness
  • Weight fluctuation
  • Acne
  • Fatigue

If any of the above symptoms worsen or progress, you should contact our offices immediately.
